Do gadgets make you a better designer?

Some designers think: “I need this mouse and that tablet and this chair and that headset to be productive as a designer”. They literally fixate on these things and try to get as many as they can. But are these gadgets really that important? Do gadgets make you a better designer?

This is because a good computer makes your workflow faster. You’ll be more productive with a good computer, believe it or not. This same principle applies to other gadgets, including a mouse, graphic tablets, screens, hard drives, etc.

If you’re like me, a laggy computer can make you want to tear your hair out. The time it takes for basic tasks to be completed is enormous and the frustration? It's just indescribable.

You need solid gadgets and this is not limited to just your computer. Your workspace, mouse, graphics tablet, etc are all in the mix. Remember, they do not need to be the costliest bunch around, they just need to be strong enough to comfortably meet your needs.

It’s said that a good workman never blames his tools. The guitar doesn’t make the musician. You can have the best tools available and suck as a designer. So while these tools enable you to work better, they are not what determines whether or not you’re an excellent designer. They are just tools, that's all.
